Fresh Flower Care Guide

Many of us may feel frustrated of how short-lived fresh flowers are when we bring it home. However, what we don't realize is that we can encourage these flowers to stay fresh longer under the right conditions. 

 

Here are 6 tips from us to you: 

Tip 1. 
If you receive a bouquet of flowers, you will need to take the flowers out from the packaging and put them in a vase of clean water. Do note that the water level should be at a level where it can cover the stems. 

 

Tip 2
Flowers drink a lot of water. It is common that larger flower arrangement requires more water. Keep a lookout for the water level to prevent the flowers from drying up and wilt. 

 

Tip 3
Flowers are highly susceptible to bacteria that builds up as stems sit in the water. Change the water every 2 to 3 days, or when you notice the water starts to turn cloudy. This helps to prevent the rotten smell that will develops when you leave the flowers there unattended. 

At this point, you can sprinkle flower food into the water for the flowers. Flower food provide the necessary nutrients to the flowers and these flower food contain a bactericide that keeps the water fresh for a day or two longer.

Tip 4
As you change the water, please do trim away 1 - 2cm off the edge of the stem. This trimming action allows the fresh tissue in the stem to absorb the water more efficiently. The trim should be in a 45 degrees angle. 

 

Tip 5
Keep the flowers in a cool area and avoid direct sunlight. Too much sunlight will make the flowers wither faster. 

 

Tip 6
Avoid placing your flowers beside ripening fruit or vegetables. The gas ethylene that is produced will make the flowers wither faster.
